Artist Studios
Artist Criteria
When a space becomes available, our Kindred team visits the list of applicants to find suitable matches and a few applicants will be contacted for a visit. Kindred runs a selective process which favours artists which are a good cultural fit along with the qualities below.
Our artists are, by nature, community minded. This is an essential quality for membership.
Studios are occupied by a diverse group of talented professional artists and makers. We encourage our members to get to know each other and get involved in collaborations, studio tours and members’ talks.
Kindred artists are dedicated professionals who are open, hard-working and willing to engage in our Mentorship programme. We require our Kins to use their studios frequently and expect our members to participate in our bi-annual and popular Open Studios events.
Kindred offers a variety of opportunities - to learn more about professional practice, to participate in group exhibitions, to access critiques and to sell work. In return, we look for artists who are keen to support both fellow creatives and the wider collective.
Pricing & benefits
In our current location, we offer a mixture of large and small studios priced to make them suitable for single occupancy. We offer 24/7 access, and most of our studios start for as little as £250 per month, plus share of utilities. All studios are lockable, have windows, sockets, sinks and some even have balconies. In our Shepherds Bush location, there is a large shared urban garden, a regular (lunch time) vegetarian café, a dedicated gallery and project space, teaching space and WIFI. There is a two-month refundable deposit.
Free bursary studios
Kindred offers a few free bursary studios for one year at a time to artists who show exceptional commitment and talent but are unable to afford a studio. Places for 2024/25 are all allocated.
